Cattle Kids

When: Sat-Sat, May 26 - Sep 1, 2012
Where: Race Horse Barns

Spearheaded by longtime Blackfoot resident Neil Anderson, Cattle Kids gives city youth the opportunity to raise their own calves. Local businesses and people donate time, money, and facilities to help relieve the financial burden. The participating youth learn responsibility, health care, nutrition, environmental needs, budgeting, and team work.

The youth tend the calves twice a day. Some responsibilities include feeding, bathing, and walking the calves. The calves are kept at the Eastern Idaho State Fair horse stalls. Through exhibiting their calves at the Fair, the youth earn ribbons and premiums. The program begins the end of May. If your child is interested in participating this year, call the county extension office at (208) 785-8060.
